october prime day 2026: 9 things i actually use that are on sale

prime big deal days runs october 6 and 7. these are the nine things from my own apartment that were already marked down when i checked, how i shop the sale, and what to know before you buy.

open kraft shipping boxes with white tissue paper on a wooden coffee table with a pink tumbler, lit amber candles, nail polish bottles and a small white pumpkin, a grey plaid sherpa throw on the sofa behind

the coffee table every october, the night the boxes show up.

prime big deal days, the october prime day, runs october 6 and 7 this year. it's 48 hours of deals that only prime members get, and it's the last big sale before black friday. which means every year my group chat turns into screenshots of things nobody needs. so i made a rule for myself: i only buy things i'd buy anyway, and i only recommend things i already own and use.

this list is exactly that. every item here is something i've already written a full post about, and every one of them was marked down on amazon when i checked on october 5, the night before it starts. more deals unlock when the event kicks off, so some of these could drop further, and a few might sell out. one note before the list: the sale prices are for prime members only. if you're not one yet, you can start a prime membership here, and check the signup page to see if you can get a free trial first.

how i'm shopping it

three rules, learned the hard way. first, the percent off is measured against the list price, and the list price is sometimes a number nobody has paid in months. if the listing shows a typical price, compare against that instead. second, i build my cart the night before. the good deals on popular things, especially the limited time ones, can run out in the first few hours. third, if it doesn't replace something i already use or fix a real problem in my apartment, it stays in the cart and i close the tab. that third rule has saved me more money than any sale.

here are my nine, grouped the way my apartment is: the cozy stuff, the kitchen stuff, and two little things i'd buy again tomorrow.

the cozy stuff

1. the heated throw that's winning my thermostat standoff. my rule is no heat before november, and the bedsure heated throw blanket is the only reason i'm keeping it this year. it lives on my couch from the first cold front until spring. it was about 39% off the list price when i checked, which puts it a little under what i paid. i wrote the whole review here, including the charlie situation.

grey flannel heated throw blanket folded back to show its cream sherpa side, draped over a beige sofa arm with its thin white cord running down beside a candle and a mug of cocoa the throw on my couch all fall bedsure heated blanket throw with preheat function, 50 x 60 inches, grey
  • six heat levels and six timer settings from 1 to 10 hours, with an 8 hour auto shut-off by default
  • a preheat mode that runs two hours on high, then six on level 4, without touching the controller
  • flannel on one side, sherpa on the other, and it's a normal soft throw when it's unplugged
  • 100 watts, so a long night on it costs a lot less than running a space heater

2. the floor lamp that fixed a dead corner. the sunmory shelf floor lamp is half lamp, half bookshelf, and it's the reason my reading nook exists. the shade opens upward, so the light bounces off the ceiling instead of glaring at you. it was about 30% off when i checked.

a tall black floor lamp with four square wooden shelves built into the post standing in a room corner, warm light glowing from the top shade, books and a small plant stacked on the tiers the lamp in my reading corner sunmory floor lamp with shelves, black, square 4-tier
  • four shelves built into the post, each rated for over 50 pounds: paperbacks, a plant, a candle
  • an 800 lumen bulb with three color temperatures, warm at night and brighter for reading
  • an off-white cloth shade that opens upward for soft, non-glary light
  • comes with the tools you need to put it together

3. the candle that makes the whole room smell like a bakery. the yankee candle vanilla cupcake large jar is the base layer of my scent stacking setup. it's sweet without being fake-sweet, and the big jar lasts me most of fall. this one had amazon's early prime big deal days badge on it, about 19% under its typical price.

a large glass jar candle with cream wax and one lit wick on a wooden nightstand, its glass lid resting beside it, a vanilla frosted cupcake on a small plate, books and a pink lamp in warm evening light the base layer of my room scent yankee candle vanilla cupcake scented candle, 22 oz large jar
  • cake batter, vanilla icing and malted sugar, without the headache kind of sweet
  • up to 150 hours of burn time on the large jar
  • a plant wax blend with a natural-fiber wick
  • strong enough to fill a bedroom from the nightstand

the kitchen stuff

4. the ninja creami, my most-used gadget. i make a high-protein pint in the ninja creami a few times a week, and it's the reason i stopped buying pints at the store. it was about 22% off when i checked, and it's the most expensive thing on this list, so this is the one i'd actually wait for a sale on. the routine is in this post.

a clear pint container of freshly spun pale pink strawberry ice cream with a spoon in it, the base of an ice cream machine behind it, two strawberries on a coral napkin the gadget i use the most ninja creami 7-in-1 ice cream maker, NC301
  • seven one-touch programs, including ice cream, lite ice cream, gelato, sorbet and smoothie bowl
  • it shaves a frozen pint into a smooth texture in a few minutes, and re-spin makes it creamier
  • you control every ingredient, which is how i get a full pint with real protein in it
  • a mix-in program folds in chocolate chips or cookies evenly

5. the air fryer that made weeknight dinners easy. the cosori turboblaze air fryer has a square 6-quart basket, which matters more than any feature on the box: four chicken thighs fit flat, so they crisp instead of steam. about 25% off when i checked. my three weeknight dinners are all made in it.

an overhead view into a dark square air fryer basket holding four crispy chicken thighs and green beans in a single layer, lemon halves and a coral napkin on the wood counter beside it the basket behind every weeknight dinner cosori turboblaze air fryer, 6 quart, dark gray
  • a square 6-quart basket with a wide, flat floor, so food goes in one layer
  • five fan speeds and a 90 to 450 degree range
  • ceramic nonstick basket and crisper plate, PFAS-free
  • quiet enough to talk over, under 53 decibels per the listing

6. the slow cooker that runs game day. the crock-pot 7-quart slow cooker holds queso on warm for a whole broncos game, then makes chili all winter. it had a limited time deal tag on it, about 40% under list, the biggest markdown on my list. the full game day setup is here.

a stainless slow cooker on a kitchen counter filled with smooth melted queso flecked with jalapeno, a wooden spoon resting across the rim, tortilla chips and lime on a board beside it in warm light the queso keeper crock-pot 7-quart manual slow cooker, stainless steel
  • 7 quarts, enough for a big batch of chili or a 7-pound roast
  • high, low and a warm setting that keeps dip at serving temperature
  • the stoneware lifts out and goes in the dishwasher with the lid
  • the insert can also go in the oven up to 400 degrees

7. the containers that made my fridge reset stick. the rubbermaid brilliance 14-piece set is what's in my fridge right now. the lids latch and actually seal, and they look like glass without the weight. it carried the early prime big deal days badge, about 30% under the typical price. here's the whole fridge and pantry reset.

clear stacked food storage containers filled with strawberries and blueberries on a bright refrigerator shelf what's in my fridge rubbermaid brilliance food storage containers, 14-piece set
  • latching lids with a leak-proof, airtight seal
  • clear tritan plastic, so you can see what's inside without the weight of glass
  • vents under the latches for microwaving with the lid on
  • they stack, so a full set takes up less shelf than you'd think

two little things

8. the top coat that makes an at-home manicure last. the seche vite dry fast top coat is the bottle i reach for every time i paint my nails. it dries fast and glossy, so i'm not sitting with my hands in the air for an hour. at about 30% off it's under ten dollars. my fall nail shades are all finished with it.

a bottle of deep red nail polish and a clear top coat bottle on a marble tray with cotton balls and a fall leaf, a hand with freshly painted burgundy nails resting beside them on every manicure i do seche vite dry fast top coat, 0.5 fl oz
  • a quick-dry formula with a high-gloss finish
  • it sinks through the color to the base coat to form one solid layer
  • helps against chips and peeling
  • one bottle lasts a long time at a coat per manicure

9. the headset for ranked nights. the hyperx cloud iii s wireless is on my desk for late games and long calls. the battery is the whole point: i charge it about once a week. about 28% off when i checked. my honest take, including the clamp, is in this post.

a red and black wireless headset on a white desk next to a jewelry dish and pink books, coral wall behind it on my desk for ranked nights hyperx cloud iii s wireless gaming headset, black/red
  • up to 120 hours on 2.4GHz and up to 200 on bluetooth

honest notes before you buy

what i like about this list: nothing here is a sale impulse. i've used every one of these for weeks or months, and i've written about the good and the annoying parts of each. the biggest markdowns when i checked were the crock-pot, the heated throw, and a three-way tie at about 30% between the rubbermaid set, the floor lamp and the top coat.

what to know: the creami is loud for about 90 seconds a pint, and the base has to freeze for 24 hours first, so it rewards planning. the air fryer and the slow cooker are both big. the slow cooker is about 17 inches across and it's manual, with no timer, so you have to be there to turn the dial. the floor lamp's shelves fit paperbacks and a plant, not a row of hardcovers, and it doesn't dim. the headset is 4.3 stars, not a love letter: some people find the clamp tight, and it's built for games, not hi-fi. and on the heated throw, the controller light is bright in a dark room and the sherpa sheds a little until you wash it once.

and the big one: prices on amazon move constantly during a sale. what i saw on october 5 is a snapshot, not a promise. check the price in your cart before you check out.
